Today Is a Good Day

Today is a good day.

It's Monday. My weekend was enjoyable, but not restful. I've been staying awake later working on various side projects. The time I have spent sleeping has been restless, with many interruptions. I woke up later than I'd like to have this morning, and I still feel bedraggled.

Today is a good day.

I showed up to work early, but when I arrived I realized I'd forgotten my computer and notebook at home. The car I was driving has a dangerous transmission issue. My commute was filled with anxiety. By the time I'd gotten back to the office with my things, I was late.

Today is a good day.

Spirits were low in the office this morning. We were tired, we were stressed. Our boss gave a motivational speech, which he only does when he's stressed and frustrated. There was an unspoken tension.

Today is a good day.

I could barely focus on my work. My mind kept wandering. When I could focus, I couldn't think clearly. Distractions ran amok. The day dragged on and on. At three separate times I sat down to write, only to get up moments later in frustration because I hated every word.

Today is a good day.

Today is not a good day because good things happened. Today is not a good day because I'm still alive and relatively well. Today is a good day because I choose to call it good.

I cannot control what happens around me. I cannot necessarily control the situations I'm in, nor what happens to me. I cannot always control my thoughts, or my ability to focus, or how well I sleep. But I can control how I respond to it. I can control what I do with each situation.

Today is a good day because I choose the make the most of it. Today is a good day because I choose to respond with a positive mindset and a hopeful outlook. These situations do not create my direction in life, or what good and bad things will come. I, with God's provision, control where I go. I control how I perceive the world. I control my attitude.

Today is a good day.
